Pool Safety: Are You Compliant?
Protect what truly matters
Owning a pool is a source of enjoyment—but it also comes with significant responsibility. Every year, preventable accidents occur due to inadequate safety measures.
Quebec regulations are clear and are designed to help protect children, your loved ones, and anyone using your property.
Why a fence is mandatory
Even a shallow pool presents a real risk to young children.
The law requires a secure enclosure to:
- Prevent unsupervised access
- Réduire les risques de noyade
- Hold property owners accountable

|---|---|
| Above-Ground Pool | Access must be secured (removable ladder or fenced platform) |
| In-Ground Pool | A complete fence enclosure is mandatory |

- Enhance your outdoor living space
- Complement the style of your home
- Provide a modern, clean-looking design

The regulation applies to all new installations as of July 1, 2021, with certain exceptions for those acquired before that date. It also applies to existing installations, which must gradually be brought into compliance, particularly those built before 2010 (compliance deadline: September 30, 2025).
Older installations may remain as they are provided they are not replaced and continue to comply with the regulations in effect.
